What is what3words?

what3words is a really simple way to talk about location. They have assigned each 3m square in the world a unique 3 word address that will never change. For example ///filled.count.soap marks the exact entrance to what3words’ London headquarters. 3 word addresses are easy to say and share, and are as accurate as GPS coordinates.

Using the WHAT3WORDS application

what3words1.JPG

WHAT3WORDS is an application used by many emergency services to locate addresses. It identifies a location to within 3 metres by a combination of 3 words.
For example the Chichester Cross monument at the junction of North, South, East and West Street is
react.spaces.cups

To locate a position, open the application and enter the 3 word address into the search box and the app will return the location. You will be offered a choice of three locations identified by small variations of the 3 words, but of course, the one we want is located in Chichester.

Tip Be sure to separate each of the 3 words with a fullstop, no spaces eg. react.spaces.cups

Click on this choice and you will be taken to the location required on a map view.

Tip You can flip the view to satellite to provide additional information about the location

Moving from location to location

Once you have solved the clue for a location, note the answer on the results chart provided in your pack, then move on to the next location of your choice. It is completely your choice as to which order you solve the clues and for you to decide on a strategy that will result in a fast time. However the whole team must move from location to location together. You are not allowed to divide the team.

Tip Ensure your phone is fully charged at the start of the race

Tip Avoid using the navigate function in the application as it will drain your phone's battery
